The Colgate Comedy Hour - starring The Ritz Brothers

From the following February 22, 1953, the Ritz Brothers' appearance on The Colgate Comedy Hour is described.  It looks like great fun...don't we all wish we could have seen it.

Hamlet And Three Eggs

From March 12, 1953, Louella Parsons reports that the Ritz Brothers will be filming a new a movie to be called "Hamlet and Three Eggs".  And it will be shot in Sweden!!!  I wonder what became of this project.

Ritzes to The Recue (Reposting w/ Enlarged Clipping)

Following is a re-posting of the Jan Murray clipping posted on June 16, 2011.  This new post features a larger clipping that should be easier to read.

Thanks,
Tim

*NOTE:  The clipping seems to have a typesetting error in the Murray / Ritz restaurant meeting.  The narrative should nevertheless be clear when reading the entire paragraph.

Ritzes To The Rescue!!!

From a July 26, 1957 newspaper article, Jan Murray describes instances when other celebrities came to his rescue in the early stages of his show business career.  Most notable is the generous assistance given to him by Al, Jimmy, and Harry in a Miami nightclub.  It's a nice little article that underscores what true gentlemen the Ritz Brothers must have been.  I hope you enjoy it.

"Please Don't Holler!!!" Blog Update

Thank you all for your recent visits to the "Please Don't Holler" blog, previously known as the stuffy "Ritz Brothers Appreciation Society" (what was I thinking?  This is the Ritz Brothers for crying out loud!).  I started this blog three years ago (with encouragement from Jeff Abraham), and then promptly ignored it (sorry, Jeff).  In the meantime, Janna Ritz established the Ritz Brother's Facebook Page, rounding up in the process a community of interesting and fun fans.  It rekindled my interest in doing something creative with my Ritz blog, so I rechristened it as "Please Don't Holler" and recently started adding content.

Many of you have visited the blog and have left your comments.  I appreciate your support and look forward to growing the site and getting to know all of you better.  In the meantime, I have a lot of work to do cataloging and documenting the growing number of photos and videos I am accumulating.  For those of you who have visited the photos and video pages, I promise improvements to come.  Thanks for your patience.

So that's it.  Like you, I enjoy the Ritz Brothers, find their work entertaining at the least and fascinating at the best, and I want to learn more about them.  This blog will be my collection point for any Ritz-related material I can acquire, which I will link to the Facebook Group.  I hope you will visit often and participate in this fun community of Ritz Brothers fans.

All the best,
Tim

Harry And Jimmy Celebrate 35 Years In Show Business! (in 1968, that is)

Here's a clipping and photo from June 7, 1968, announcing the Ritz Brother's upcoming Caesar's Palace engagement.  Judging by the article, the Ritzes date their start in show business to 1933.  With that in mind, we fans should honor their 80th anniversary in 2013 with something special.  I have no idea what, but perhaps we should start discussing ideas.  Anyone interested should please comment here or on the Ritz Brothers Facebook page.  Thanks, Tim

"He Ain't Got Rhythm" = A Beautiful Morning

I woke up out of sorts this morning.  Nothing was really wrong, but nothing seemed right either.  No big deal, actually...just work through it.  So I set about working on my Ritz blog when I decided to watch the YouTube clip of the boys singing and dancing "He Ain't Got Rhythm" from 1937's On The Avenue.  PURE JOY!  I've always loved this performance.  It's classic Ritz musical mayhem and a joy to watch.  My spirits were lifted and I cruised through the rest of the day.  Mood modification...courtesy of the Ritz Brothers.

Harry's Mystery Movie

Now here is a bit of a mystery.  The following 1980 article describes a movie, "Love And Money", that was to star Harry Ritz.  This movie does not appear in any of the standard Ritz sources, so I assume the film was never made or never released.  IMDB lists a 1982 film of the same title, but the description does not seem to be a likely vehicle vehicle for Harry.  Then again, Blazing Stewardesses was not a likely vehicle for Harry and Jimmy either. At any rate, if any reader can shed some light on this mystery and let us know the whereabouts of Harry's "Love And Money", please do so.  Thanks, Tim
